Vous avez des infos sur ce à quoi ça va ressembler? Plutôt For him... ou L/F... ou autre???

Rien qu'à la gueule du titre et de la tracklist, je dis que ça pue le Trifoule 2 - le Retour, il revient et il est toujours aussi mou.

Bien que j'apprécie Trifoule à sa juste valeur...

on aura une meilleure idée demain, d'après ce que j'ai compris le single 'piano blink' sera en écoute sur le site officiel.

About Between the Beautifuls

1. all the trees are hers... walking through the woods one day... a friend and i wondered if the trees were male or female. it was spring and the day was gushing and delicious. it was agreed then that they were hers.

2. alone here (ballad of bunches of things)... i actually tried to finish this song for treeful of starling. it never clicked then. i rarely keep songs on the back burner. i usually figure that if a song doesn't wish to be born it'll fight to be forgotten. but there was something lovely about the idea of animals gathering and loneliness. there were so many more wonderful names for groups of animals... parliaments of owls and prides of lions and such... i could have lost myself in writing verses for this tune.

3. it's not me... this song too, came from a couple of years ago. i wrote it in a time of feeling lost to myself. in loathing and self destruction. when i finally recorded it in may, i was far from the place i was when i had written it. it doesn't always hurt to visit these times as a reminder of where you've been and how low it's possible to go.

4. no stillness and no rain... in my long love affair with the weather, i wrote this down watching an undecided sky. i remember it being grey and my surroundings were twisting in imperceptible ways. it's like when the earth seems out of step with time. it feels like that more these days than i remember. i remember bob ezrin telling me he thought this was the worst song i had ever written. i still really like it though.

5. oh you delicate heart... i wrote this as a gift to a friend. i had been listening to a mazzy star song on repeat for weeks. i wanted to create something that waved as if living in water. these are tough times to be open and feeling. the world seems ready to tread upon any delicate soul. it's hard to stay positive and eager to love. hard too to believe in light when it feels like there are only fleeting glimpses of it these days.

6. piano blink... i wrote this song the day i arrived in los angeles from paris. i had been living a bit destructively during my month or so in europe. on the flight over i prepared myself to be clear and focussed. i went to cherokee studio directly from the LAX. i had planned a 10 day writing trip with my good friend and musical brother, doc. i was exhausted but he insisted we write something before i went to bed... and this was it. los angeles always makes me feel fiery and creative. it was also a nice warm break from european coastal winter.

7. pomegranate daffodil... this was the last song i wrote for the record. a friend of mine was dissecting and photographing fruits and vegetables for horticultural studies. the photos were sexy and bursting. it was spring and the smell of mud waking up from a long winter sleep always makes me randy to write. sometimes too, i can get caught up worrying about things and forget to live in the moments... i wrote the outro section as a reminder to myself.

8. prettier face... a darker lament about destruction and stumbling. i wrote this in LA too, where dirt under the fingernails seems easier to see and harder to forget.

9. september lily... i wrote this song in the last apartment i kept in toronto. the apartment where i recorded the better part of treeful of starling. somtimes lovely words just get more delicious when you put them side by side. september and lily are that for me. also the blatent contradicting forces of autumn and spring. a love song and lament of feeling inadequate and in need. sometimes the truth of sadness is hard to believe. it stains the eye.

10. the city is a drag... i don't remember when i wrote this. but for a while i had a feeling that toronto would conspire against me when i'd return there after a long tme away. despite my love for that city, i would get all manner parking fines, creatures living in my apartment, neighbours shutting my early morning writing sessions down with graceless hammering on my door. i think too there is something in here about turning into an adult... you could probably swap 'city' for 'adult' too.

11. what would you say to me, lord ?... in a wonderfully lucid moment i sat down at an old upright piano i had just bought and wrote this song in about 15 minutes. instruments are funny things. they live and breathe. the give and respond. this song was clearly meant to indicate the great future i was going to have with this instrument. i also think this is one my best recorded drum performances (i know that is pretty nerdy to say)... this tempo and feel just lives in my hands and i could play this feel forever...

12. bonus: piano blink (los manlicious mix)... this version is the pretty much how the original track sounded when it went down in los angeles. doc cooked up a delicious feel and chord vibe... the melody fell out... we loved it. i really felt alive during those sessions.

Je tiens la news d'un membre du site d'HW qui m'a par ailleurs annoncé qu'un autre projet visant l'europe devrait voir le jour d'ici peu.

La date du 4 février est donc l'arrivée des imports en France ...

J'ai reçu l'album hier (avec le cours actuel du dollar, c'est un plaisir d'importer...).

Bon, mon verdict : ma préférée c'est pomegranate daffodil, suivie par the city is a drag (je crois que c'est celle-là, qui finit avec un chorus de femmes et du violon bien sympa).

Le reste, c'est comme vous avez dit...

C'est pas non plus pourri du cul, mais c'est vraiment pas terrible...

1 chanson que je n'ai pas pu écouter en entier : Piano Blink Piste 6, parce que c'est vraiment exécrable assommant...
1 que j'ai écouté aux trois quarts avant de jeter l'éponge : What Would You Say To Me, Lord?
1 remix qui prend la place qu'aurait pu occuper une nouvelle chanson et qui en plus de ça n'a pas d'intérêt (d'la soupe !).
6 chansons molles et interchangeables.

Et puis trois trucs intéressants, quand même
Pomegranate Daffodil of course, parce que ça fait 'achement de bien d'entendre une nouvelle chanson cabaret comme on les aime (même si elle ne part en sucette que 2 minutes sur 4, il aurait pu nous gater un peu plus pour la seule chanson de ce style de l'album).
Pis The City is a Drag aussi, même si je trouve le début un peu propre sur lui. M'enfin c'est très sympa à écouter.
Et ma perloute de l'album, Prettier Face, chanson qui s'annonce soporifique à la base, mais qui finalement s'en tire mieux que toutes les autres. Je sais pas, c'est simple, maîtrisé, mon coup de coeur.

Voilà ! 3 chansons sur 12 ! C'est maigre...

Axel, en espérant qu'il y aura bien un album spécial Europe...

Vous allez me prendre pour un dingue mais je trouve des sonorités très FHAG à cet album.

Dans l'ensemble très homogène, il y a quelques chansons qui sortent du lot: (pomegranate daffodil, the city is a drag,what would you say to me, lord ?)

d'autres agréable à écouter (piano blink version los manlicious, no stillness no rain, all the trees are here, you delicate heart, what would you say to me lord, september lily)

et des franchement pas terribles (piano blink, it's not me, prettier face)

Perso, j'ai une petite faiblesse pour "no stillness no rain" qui pourrait faire un bon single !

Maintenant il me reste à lire les textes pour mieux évaluer l'album

Hé bien en fait après réécoute, c'est de what would you say to me, lord ? que je voulais parler... the city is a drag ne sort pas du lot, je m'étais trompée.

Je "plussoie" Axel pour Prettier face qui a des accents très sympathiques à écouter (si on exclut le tout début).

Ah et puis j'ai prêté l'album à un collègue qui n'avait jamais entendu parler d'Hawksley de sa vie... Il me l'a rendu en me disant "très très sympa, on dirait un peu du James Blunt".
Ben voilà, avec ça, je crois qu'on a tout dit ! :p

Depuis que j'écoute l'album en entier, et pas seulement les titres sur le site, c'est très différent de ce que je pensais! En fait, à la 1ère écoute de "piano blink", j'ai hurlé: on dirait du Ed Harcourt!! Et moi qui aime bien, je ne voulais pas vraiment trouver ce son chez Hawksley. Je voulais qu'il reste bien lui! si vous me suivez Ensuite, par contre, je trouve que la chanson sonne mieux dans l'album. Et j'ajoute que je la préfère version piste 5, plutôt que Los Manlicious mix. Là je trouve qu'elle dégouline trop avec les violons... La version piste 5 est plus fraiche je dirais.
J'aime beaucoup "All the trees are hers", dialogue sur la nature, ça me botte!
"Alone Here" est super, un peu légère, bon, le coté pop est très déjà vu, mais elle marche très bien je trouve.
"It's not me" est plutôt ennuyeuse, à voir en concert... la fin semble pouvoir arranger les choses.
"No stilness and no rain" trop classique pop, pas de touche perso je trouve. Mais bon, elle doit pouvoir se retenir, et donc se chanter facilement.
J'adore "Oh you Delicate Heart", elle me fait penser à ses meilleures chansons, un peu triste, mais bien dans le genre "Baby this night"
"Pomegranate Daffodil" Définitivement géniale!! Vivement le concert!!!!!! come on, come on!!!!!
Prettier face" à me faire des frissons, j'aime l'écriture et j'adore la tonalité! Un grand coup de coeur!
"September Lily" je n'arrive pas à accrocher vraiment... Plus tard peut être.

"What would you say to me Lord" pas encore fan, mais j'aime beaucoup comme elle se termine (Angèle ,comme toi, les choeurs de femmes rendent bien je pense).

TOS, j'ai pas aimé du tout et j'ai mis des mois avant d'écouter BTB.
Le concert approchant, j'ai décidé de m'immerger un peu...et bien je suis rassuré ! C'est pas aussi beau et guitareux que L/F mais les mélodies et les paroles me parlent...

J'aime particulièrement (pas d'ordre) :
- all the trees are her (arrangements)
- no stillness and no rain
- piano blink (paroles !)
- pomegranate gnagna
- prettier face (the best pour l'instant)
- what would you say to me, Lord (ça sent le duo hawks à la batterie+Lonely en live)

Pour les autres je suis pas encore convaincu...en tout cas j'ai hate d'assister à mon 6e (7e ?) concert d'hawks, surtout s'il est accompagné de son groupe !
